Quantum Leap Solutions the creators of ‘The Racing App’ gave us a brief was to create a set of 3D animated race horse assets for a Unity based app. The challenge was creating high detailed 3D models which could run smoothly on a variety of mobile devices. The app uses realtime rendering so a level of optimisation was required. This was achieved by using a relatively low poly models and high detail materials. We have created over 20 different race actions and we’re regularly adding new ones to give the app greater depth.
Quantum Leap Solutions, creators of The Racing App, required a collection of high-quality 3D horse animations for integration into their Unity-based mobile platform.
The application was designed to provide racing enthusiasts with an engaging and immersive user experience, making realistic horse movement a key part of the overall product. However, unlike traditional CGI animation rendered as video, these assets needed to function within a real-time mobile environment where performance, optimisation and device compatibility were critical considerations.
The challenge was to create detailed and believable racehorse models and animations that captured the speed, movement and energy of horse racing while remaining lightweight enough to perform efficiently across a broad range of mobile devices. The final assets needed to strike a balance between visual quality and technical performance without compromising the user experience.
We developed a complete library of optimised 3D horse models and animation sequences specifically designed for real-time rendering within the Unity game engine.
Using an efficient modelling and texturing workflow, we created detailed racehorse assets that maintained a realistic appearance while keeping polygon counts and performance requirements under control. This approach allowed the animations to run smoothly across mobile devices without sacrificing visual quality.
Alongside the 3D models, we produced a comprehensive collection of racing animations covering a wide range of horse movements and race actions. These assets provided The Racing App with the flexibility to create a more dynamic and engaging user experience while maintaining consistent visual quality throughout the application. Over 20 unique racehorse actions were produced, with additional animations added over time to expand the depth and realism of the platform.
Working closely with the development team, we reviewed the technical requirements of the Unity platform and established performance targets for the 3D assets. Particular attention was given to mobile hardware limitations and real-time rendering requirements.
Detailed racehorse models were created with an emphasis on anatomical accuracy and realistic proportions. The modelling process focused on achieving the highest possible visual quality while maintaining an efficient polygon budget suitable for mobile deployment.
Optimised materials and textures were developed to enhance visual detail without negatively impacting performance. By combining efficient geometry with carefully crafted surface materials, we were able to create assets that looked highly detailed while remaining suitable for real-time rendering.
A library of racehorse animations was created to support a variety of racing scenarios and interactions within the app. Each animation was carefully refined to ensure realistic movement and smooth transitions while maintaining performance across multiple devices.
Assets were prepared and optimised for implementation within Unity. Testing and refinement ensured that the models and animations performed consistently across a range of mobile hardware specifications, delivering a reliable and engaging user experience.
